About Guy Harris & DisabledGear.com

Guy Harris, founder of Disabled Gear, where you can buy and sell used disability equipment

Welcome to DisabledGear.com, the place to buy and sell disabled equipment online!

When I created this website, I wanted to make a practical alternative for buying and selling disability equipment, and address many of the frustrations I have experienced in my years of paralysis.

The FREE-Ads section is the main reason for this site. And it is all about choice, convenience and reduced cost. (We regret that at this stage, the FREE-Ads section is for people in the UK & ROI only.)

I have some experience of disability but if you find that this site does not fully cater for your own disability, please let me know and I will do something about it. Headers and categories are easy to add!

I'm proud of DisabledGear.com's credentials:

• One easy place where people can save money by buying 2nd hand.

• A green place where items can be recycled and used again instead of filling attics and land-fills.

• A market place where the consumers create the levels of pricing, not the retailers.

• Ability to search locally (nation-wide) so people don't have to travel far.

• Accessibility: we have made every effort to reach a AA standard, including accessibility for the visually impaired.

For the site to work, grow and serve its purpose, I wanted:

• classifieds to be free, so people use them, and the system works better for everyone: buyers have choice & sellers have buyers.

• to simplify buying and selling disability equipment, too often a frustrating and expensive business.

• a clear and attractive website that is easy to use and navigate around.

• one easy place for anyone with any disability to buy and sell second hand equipment.

I also wanted to create a New Products section selling well designed items. A smaller range of better stuff - born out of a frustration at trying to find kit for my own everyday living and travel needs. And to sell these items at a fair price.

We have kept glossy marketing and the advertisements you find in every disability magazine to a minimum. And we will not buy our products from middlemen, but will source direct. The simple reason for this is that it would add a big cost to every item we sell, and we are committed to reducing prices.

We know that promotion is everything for any business. Part of this site is FREE-Ads, no matter the value of the item being sold. It will put buyers and sellers in direct contact, and should make a big difference to anyone needing to buy or dispose of specialist equipment. You could be disabled, elderly, mobility-restricted, or a fit active amputee looking for a piece of specialist sports equipment. PLEASE PASS THIS WEBSITE ON and use it for your own benefit, as well as all the other users. Rest assured, we are doing our bit to shout about it too!

Our Customer Service Promise to You:

• We will provide access to contact us by telephone, email and postal address.

• We will respond to all messages quickly and to the best of our ability.

We will continue to develop the site to be able to give you the best features, service and information we can.

Our Products Promise to You:

• We will only recommend products we would recommend to our friends.

• We will search for, and stock, well designed and well built products that we can offer at a fair price.

• We will only buy from manufacturers to keep the prices as low as possible.

We don't want to be heroic, pitying, patronising or political. Things are what they are. If we do our bit well, it might just make things a bit easier. That's all.

I hope you will enjoy using the website and find it beneficial.

With my best wishes

Guy
